“Red Rose Red”

Day twenty three of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is yet another Rose. There’s going to be a few more after this one just so you know! I just love painting Roses! They are such elegant graceful flowers. I can’t wait to have my own Rose garden one day. I’ll never run out of photo references then. Oh what a happy day that will be! Anyway back to chatting about the piece. I know I already did one red Rose, but I wanted to do another one that had deeper colors. I think this one turned out  nicely and I love the hits of red orange in the piece. I did a lot of dark shadowing on this one with black.

“Little Sunflower”

Day 22 of the 30 paintings in 30 days. Today’s subject is a Sunflower. The reference photo was a picture my best friend Ashley took. She’s a photographer and takes awesome pictures. This was probably taken at her parents farm. This didn’t turn out exactly like I was wanting. I know what I did wrong though and next time it will look better. I just applied it too dark to begin with where the Ochre color is. At least the piece has some dimension with the one flower in front of the other. I would like to re do this one though sometime.

stainedglass Rose

This was my attempt at creating a stainedglass window in watercolors. It turned out OK, but it needs improving. I’ll be doing some more eventually trying to make them look better. I like the Rose itself, just not the whole thing together. Maybe I’ll cut out the rose and layer it onto another piece. That might be interesting. Definitely something to think about. I love painting and drawing Roses though! The edges started out orange and blue instead of  black. I’ll include a picture of before I painted over it. I think it helped a little bit. Let me know what you think! I’ll include some work in progress pictures also. The idea is a work in progress for sure though. I think I’m going to go fix something to eat and start work on a new piece!

“Shades of a Rose”

Day 21 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is another Rose. I love my Rose’s what can I say?! I love all the colors in this piece. The bright pinks with the browns and oranges. I think it gives lots of depth and interest. This one is kind of a loser style also. It’s still lovely though. Not my favorite one out of the month, but still nice I need to touch this one up some. It looks like one big petal is wrapping around it. It should look like two. Maybe I’ll leave it be though. Once you start going back and nit picking you end up messing stuff up!

“Lily” #2

Day twenty of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is another Asiatic Lily. I like how I captured the pollen on the pistils, ready to pollinate near by suitors! The pink and yellows play so nicely together. It could of been better, but that’s what I love about this challenge. It makes you be creative, you have to put out daily work, and by the end of the 30 days you have grown. I definitely like the first lily better though!

“Sunshine Shrooms”

Here’s another little Mushroom watercolor I did at the same time as the one I posted at the end of December. I had the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge during January, so I had to wait to post it so it didn’t get lost in the other paintings. I would of had to do a double posting and I don’t like to post more than one a day. I think this one is really fun! I love the bright yellow caps and how I made them into a little clump. Painting mushrooms reminds me of being a kid going to hikes looking for Morels when they started to pop up. Maybe that will be my next piece. A Morel would be fun to paint that’s for sure. Anyway back to the piece in this post. I need to go back and go over the black areas again. You can see some lighter colors through it in areas. The scanner also takes some of the vibrancy out of the piece when I scan them into my computer. I need to get a program to touch it up to bring it back to a more accurate color. I’m happy with it though and I like how I faded it to one side. I think it will make a cute postcard. Overall it’s a cute little quick painting. I’ll be doing more Mushroom’s in the future.

Pumpkin Patch Pals

I forgot to post this piece last Fall when I did it. I hope you enjoy.

I finished my “Father Oaks legacy” collection, but wanted to paint another piece. Something that had to do with the season still. I decided on pumpkins. the ones from the background of my self portrait looked good. I decided on two simple pumpkins and I love the outcome. I love the contrasting colors of the blue tone pumpkin next to the orange one. they play off each other so well! I like that it’s not a polished piece either. I’m going to do some more pumpkins and good and gourds.

“Blush Rose”

Day nineteen of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is yet another Rose. Roses are just fun to paint. I think this is my favorite of the Rose’s I’ve painted during this challenge. I’m going to be keeping the original of this one. That’s definitely something I’m going to need several of planted in my yard when I get a place. That way I have inspiration for Rose paintings right in my yard. I just love painting Rose’s. I see it in an ornate frame sitting on my desk.

“Calla Lily”

Day eighteen of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is a Calla Lily. I love Calla Lilies. I’m not happy with how this one came out though. The point of the challenge is just creating a painting everyday. It doesn’t even have to be finished or perfect. It’s just to get your mind creating and pushes you to create. I do enjoy the challenge even though some days I don’t feel like doing much. I’m going to have to do another Calla Lily  and take more time doing it. Not that these little paintings don’t take a few hours to do. It does help me create and doing a painting everyday does help you improve your skills.

“Rhododendron”

Day seventeen of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today’s subject is a Rhododendron. Such a classic flower that makes me think of little cottages and old plantation homes. They are a very sculptural evergreen plant that really works with any landscape. They come in a variety of colors and I can’t wait to plant some on my one day property. I really like how this one turned out. There’s not a whole flower in there, just hints of a couple of the flowers that grow in clusters.
